FCS-FBS Odds

Unread post by Baywave1 »

FCS Montana State visits MWC UNM Saturday. MSU is a ten point favorite on the road.

MSU is an outstanding FCS team but has not won FCS. Lobos have been underperforming lately in MWC.

I know some here hate AAC but has any American team been a double digit underdog at home to an FCS team?

I doubt it. To be that big of an underdog takes unusual circumstances. There are only a few, likely less than 10, fcs schools that would be double digit favorites against even the worst fbs teams. It would take the right matchup to make it happen

Forget double digit underdog... has any AAC team ever been an underdog to an FCS school?

That would take some historical digging so not sure. Here's what I can say. Using preseason sp+, 10 fcs teams would be double digit favorites over ulm. Ulm is the lowest rated fbs school and South Dakota st, ndsu, Montana, Montana st, Villanova, southern Illinois, South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Youngstown, and holy cross would all likely be 10+ favorites in Monroe.

The first seven schools on that list would be 10+ point favorites in Philly against temple. The first four on the list would be 10+ favorites against Charlotte in Charlotte. Those are rough figures but it's entirely possible with the right matchups.

Thanks for homework. It really says alot more about Charlotte and Temple than the top FCS teams.

NM had a pretty big lead (17pts I believe) going into the 4th quarter. Would have been a rare FBS upset of an FCS.

Yeah, looking at the media feed on my score app, it's pretty funny because only NMSU was tweeting and they did the "one more to go" thing at the end of 3 when it was well in hand, then one more after when they stopped a 4th down conversion, then... silence.

Montana State scored their third TD to go ahead with 10 seconds left.
