Baseball is AAC Tourney 3rd Seed (Tournament Discussion Thread)

Unread post by waverider »

Was picked 7-9 in most preseason polls.
Will play FAU Rd 1 in the last game Tuesday. Tentatively scheduled for 7:30c start.

Edit: I figure there’s no need to have a separate AAC Tourney thread so we can just add to this one.

It's likely to start late, since the Rice/ECU game will likely not start before 1:30 or 2:00, which puts UNCC/UTSA at somewhere around 4:30 to 5:00, ending somewhere about 8:00. We're up 45 minutes after that game ends.
We can hope that all the games take less than 3 hours, and there are no weather delays, I guess, but we could be staying up late.
We just need to stay in the winners bracket, so we get Wednesday and Friday off.

From Guerry earlier today, FAU ace C.J. Williams tossed 5-hit shutout against Wave in Boca Raton, although he got battered vs. UTSA on Thursday.

I’d almost consider starting Welch just for those reasons you mentioned. Winning that first game is huge. I also think our offense has gotten better since we last played them.

Wave would have been better off in the ECU bracket.. ECU is going to mail it in and save it for the regional they are hosting... which will allow another AAC team to get a tournament bid.

Could also be better that we are not. They can pitch a couple guys in the first couple games and have them ready for the regional. They may be more likely to rest guys towards the championship game knowing they have a regional locked up.

Jumping way far ahead here.

IF the team goes 4-1 or 4-0 and repeats as tournament champions, is Tulane a #3 seed in the NCAA tournament this time?

Probably so, considering the much better record and RPI

kind of off topic, but nice to see the AAC didn't bring in all 10 teams to keep a normal tournament format.

The ACC tourney is weird... basically single elimination unless your a high seed.

Four Pools of 3 teams. Each team plays the other teams in their pool. Top team goes to the final four, single elimination from there. If a top seed goes 1-1 and there isn't a 2-0 team in their pool, they win the tiebreaker... so a team like Miami, seeded 11, needs to win four games to win the tournament.

My fear any time we go to the bullpen.

I’m going to try to monitor game 3 to have a bette idea of our start time.

ECU held on to win. Game 3 is scheduled for 4c. If that goes smoothly we should be able to start somewhere around 7:30-8.

Things are settling up nicely for us if we just take care of business. UTSA saved their ace so he’s pitching tomorrow if they lose tonight. We can avoid him. Most other teams are pitching their best guys today. Not that we have any pitching to brag about, but we do have an offense that can hang with anyone most days.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Charlotte ends up giving up the 4 run lead + gets ten-run ruled by UTSA in this 8th Inning.

Complete implosion.

UTSA just tied it on a sac fly. Now our game could be late.

Also means we could be facing UTSA’s ace if we win.
