The school wants to lease the sidewalks between Calhoun St. and Newcomb Blvd. The goal is improve safety for students, faculty, and staff. The street itself will remain under city jurisdiction and there are no plans to close it to vehicular traffic.

Those sidewalks definitely need some attention that the city is unlikely to give them, particularly given the focus on tearing up seemingly every street downtown in preparation for the Super Bowl. This sure seems like a win/win for everyone involved.

Crossing Poydras has been a game of Frogger the past couple months. One side is not so bad because it’s only one lane, but the westbound lanes are complete but with no crosswalks or lanes drawn and the light to cross has been off the whole time.
Tulane has a building next to me, maybe they can take over that stretch of Poydras. Oh, don’t forget that when the SB was last here, they closed one side of Poydras for 2 weeks.
