Frequent Outages

Unread post by Roller »

Yeah, I know. I'm just as frustrated as you. Paul is getting us back online just as soon as he learns that it's crashed again. But he has a number of boards to maintain, so he doesn't always get the word that we're crashed until it's been down for a few hours. He's given me a possible solution, but it has to wait until noladave gets back from his trip overseas (he's the "owner" of the site).

Thanks for the patience that has been shown in the past couple of weeks as we've experienced outages nearly every day.

One issue is that yogwf.com, in this version (using phpBB), will have 20 years of posts on June 17th, 2024. We have not pruned since day one. Yes, all the good, the bad, and the ugly. YOGWF is HUGE.

Do we want to keep everything from day one? Or do we pick a point and prune it?

Remember, some of the Cowen battle and fundraising, Katrina, where many kept in contact through yogwf, CWS, and more, are all saved.

One opinion is to copy yogwf.com and make it a historical forum without posting. Then, start another regular yogwf forum and begin pruning back. Which begs the question: How far back to go? Start at the Willie years?

Pertinent discussion is welcome...

While the archive has value, I think functionality is the biggest key. I would defer to what the experts say as far as what is practical to move over; it might vary by forum rather than date if that's practical (do we really need the Lindsey Scott saga preserved from recruiting lol?).

Given the silence from the board, I would humbly suggest that maybe this topic should be moved to the main board; I have to think folks have opinions and just aren't seeing this.
