What is an academic PWO?

Re: 2024 Football Recruiting Info
An Academic PWO is a Preferred Walk-On receiving academic scholarship dollars. At least, that's my definition of APWO.
"You're not here on scholarship to lose. I didn't recruit you to lose. Losing is abnormal; losing is unusual; losing is unacceptable. That's not what we're here for."

Re: 2024 Football Recruiting Info
We have had alot of Legislative scholarship preferred walkons especially in baseball but they sometimes hit other sports like football.
Dickson’s daughters played volleyball and Conroy’s son in basketball used employee children tuition waivers. Many here recall headbutting between Scelfo and Dickson when former gave his nephew a football scholarship when he qualified for employee child tuition waiver through his assistant coach father, Scelfo’s brother. Conroy had a player one year on ROTC scholarship.
Point is there are plenty of ways to flesh out your PWO roster. One of many misses by Johnson was he did not fully fill out his roster to allowed NCAA limit for walk-ons. Willie and Wes to their credit fixed that by recruiting a full roster of walk-ons using academic aid, legislative schollies and yes student loan aid. Maybe they were mostly scout team bodies but better practices make better teams at least in Fritz world.

Sure, but they're all just referred to as walk-ons, they're not categorized by how they're paying or not paying tuition.Baywave1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 9:37 am We have had alot of Legislative scholarship preferred walkons especially in baseball but they sometimes hit other sports like football.

So? It’s too granular for you. However it shows in depth how to fix the problem like Fritz did whereas Johnson, et al simply threw their hands up in the air. (Something we regularly see from some posters here too.)
Why does it matter? Fritz generally had 10+ more walk onsthan CJ and as we still do today maxing at NCAA limit. Again more bodies leads to better practices and at least in Fritz world to better results
Fritz worked hard to fix it successfully. That’s the point. Similar to our NIL which functions much more successfully than a number of P4 schools.
Yes resources matter. But you can still meliorate disadvantages there by out grinding your more well provisioned competitors.

That's your point, but it's not what is being discussed. No one disagrees with you.Baywave1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 12:24 pm So? It’s too granular for you. How they pay is irrelevant. A preferred walk-on just doesn’t have to try out for a spot on the roster like the regular walk-ons that just show up.ml wave wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 10:57 amSure, but they're all just referred to as walk-ons, they're not categorized by how they're paying or not paying tuition.Baywave1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 9:37 am We have had alot of Legislative scholarship preferred walkons especially in baseball but they sometimes hit other sports like football.

Is the pay method irrelevant? Johnson and other coaches preceding him for decades couldn’t figure it out until Willie and Wes did so
What does NCAA allow: 25 walkons? Not only did Fritzes fill the cupboard, They elevated quality of those extra 25 players to benefit of all.
I welcome correction but i think there were some seasons Toledo/Johnson had as few as five WOs.

Re: 2024 Football Recruiting Info
Yes, it's irrelevant. Toledo/Johnson were some combination of lazy and dumb (remember CJ canceling spring practices?)...there's not that much to figure out, it just takes a little effort and attention to detail.Baywave1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 3:28 pm Is the pay method irrelevant? Jaxon Ducre, OL, from Brother Martin announced his commitment on Xitter today. PWO?
Just curious. Any relation to Christian Ducre of several decades ago?

From sources in Baton Rouge, lsu is making a play for Patrick Jenkins. Some in red stick think it is done deal. The new era of college athletics is difficult.

“Sources” being random Tigerdroppings posters
Nothing is surprising anymore in the Wild West NIL/Portal era of college football though.
Have to hope the rumors are BS. He’s (obviously) an important returning piece to our front 7

Re: 2024 Football Recruiting Info
I hope it is rumors also. But my Tulane sources are saying there is something going on. My hopes are LSU pursues someone else who enters the portal after spring football ends.
Re: 2024 Football Recruiting Info
Is Jenkins playing in the Spring Game this should say a lot.
