Mulkey is the female version of Bobby Knight. Great coach, but a huge a-hole.

At least Bobby Knight was often funny.

I haven't watched the evening national news in years but tonight we had big storms here so I had the TV on, and when they cleared, it went straight to the news in progress. They were doing a big story on how apparently people are calling LSU out for being in the locker room during the national anthem, acting like it was an anti-American protest, yada yada. Mulkey said she had no idea when it was played and they were just in the locker room for pregame talk. I would have loved to have yet another thing to dislike them for, but I realized that we (my Tulane teams) were never on the court for the anthem either; we'd warm up until about 8 minutes left, go to the locker room for final instructions, then come out with like 3 minutes left. I guess the anthem was played during that time but I literally never heard it once in all my years playing. And it had nothing to do with any politics (this was years before all that stuff), it was just Perry Clark's way of doing things.

Good thing there was no Twitter in the early 90s or we'd have been canceled!
(Oh yeah, we also never shook our opponents' hands either. Clark made us go straight to the locker room. What jerks we all must have been!)

All I got out of this was that Perry Clark doesn't respect the troops

Agreed on Knight; he was actually low-key hilarious when he wasn't openly abusive...and sometimes even when he was tbh....

I can't remember ever seeing either team on the court for the Anthem at a men's game in college; I don't remember looking either way more recently. It definitely wasn't just a Tulane thing back then, and I doubt it's just a Mulkey/LoSer-U thing now. Of the many sound reasons to dislike Mulkey and LoSer-U, this ain't one of them.

Also, not to veer into politics too much, but our new governor is very much into performative outrage, so this sort of tantrum is entirely in character for him, and at least locally he seems the driving force behind the noise on this.

Well I saw an AP News headline that Reese declared for the WNBA draft via a Vogue magazine photo shoot, because she "didn't want to be basic". So that's a perfectly comical ending to her LSU career.

I don't know that it's comical so much as smart on her part; she knows that her future earnings are tied to followers and social media (and the ads and endorsements flowing therefrom), not the relatively paltry salaries offered by the WNBA.

I meant comical in that her time at LSU had nothing to do with LSU and was clearly about her and her brand, to the eventual detriment of their program. I find that funny.

What I think this shows is that she clearly wanted out of LSU (or perhaps was even asked to leave, not that we'll even hear the truth), because with NIL, it's very possible she made more there than she will in the WNBA. I have no stats but I'd guess that LSU nation is quite a bit larger than the fanbase of whatever WNBA team she lands on. But I know I won't be following to find out how it all works out for her...
