Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
MSU scores on the last play of the game. All 3 TDs came on fade routes. Something to work on. No injuries that I know of.
Victory is never permanent
Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
Pretty hard to draw any conclusions on this one. Just a total mismatch. It’s an easy win, hopefully nobody is hurt and move on to next weeks big game.
Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
The best thing about this is that a lot of players got some game time experience; when the second and third team players get some real game time, it has to help prepare for any time they have to step in. Add to that the coaches get some film on some of subs; has to count for something, right?
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

The backups will have lots to work on. We will need their depth, but there is no way this team should've scored 20 points on us and of course they wouldn't if we'd played starters all game. Basically exactly what we wanted to see today. Easy win with plenty of live game experience to go around
Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
I wouldn’t put much into the 20 pts they scored. The first TD was on a short field after an Ibieta INT. The last one was mostly against guys that will see little, if any, playing time this season.
Celestine looked good carrying the ball.

I tell my wife Tulane was up 52-7 at halftime
She replies…. “Did they win?”
So, yes, she’s watched with me before.

Willie Fritz: Every guy that dressed got in the game. About 110-115 guys.
Also said that the defenders in the 4th qtr were scout team guys that weren’t involved in the game planning this week so they were a little out of position.

Looked at my score app gambler chat section... Some folks had Tulane -48. MSU scored on the last play and had the chance to go for 2 after time had expired... Announcers said they should... Gamblers FREAKING OUT... Then MSU decided to just call it a game. Huge sigh of relief.
Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
Pete, I loss a pretty big criss cross with Florida. Laid 28.5. Winning 35-3 to 3 at half and score 7 in the 2nd half. Had 600 yards of offense at half. USF returns a punt late in the game and I lose. The risk you run laying that many points.
Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
Did any of the young guys stand out? Did the young WR’s play? How did Ibieta look?

Love it when I can complain about the play of the second, third and fourth string! It was awesome! So glad so many guys got on the field!!
Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
Wife and I went to the game. I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd. I bet there have been less real bodies at the Dome in the bad old days.
The team energy was high from the first snap. Excellent.
Our OC rode the QBs all game. IMO the interceptions are on him. No reason to be throwing in those situations.
I liked both Brumfield and Celestine.
We have at least 25 very good looking defensive players that are nearly interchangeable.
I’m still not convinced about our WRs. Not sure Deuce Watts was targeted.
Some a$$whole wore an lsu cap to the game. He sat behind a few former TU players who was giving him an earful (nicely but clearly).
He left before halftime with a chorus of “lsu suks” and “Roll tide” raining down on his sorry arse.

Pratt looked very sharp. Interestingly ibieta runs better than Pratt. Horton didn’t throw much but he maybe a better pure passer than ibieta. I don’t think he is a better QB at this stage. It just gives us depth.
What we do know is Morgan state starters are competitive with our scout team. Glad everyone played. Berry messy though in 4th q
Looking forward to ole miss. Tulane can win that game.

Great job 1401973! Ride his arse all the way to Baton Rouge. I would have been chanting PAC 10 and go Cowboys! Luv it!!1401973 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 4:40 pm Wife and I went to the game. The box score had Dorian Williams with two catches. Play him both ways if the WR’s can’t do the job. Like to see Bohannon in the rotation. Was Shae Wyatt held out of the game? Toles has been a pleasant surprise. Having a break out year.

I do now remember one DW catch on the sideline. Can’t remember a second. Glad he is getting in the mix.
Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
We took care of business. Looked good doing it. Moving on to a big game against Ole Miss. great opportunity to vault ourselves to relevance this season.
We deserve so much better

Was there. Really surprised at all the Tulane fans who attended. Just no contest on the field.

Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
Wyatt was targeted early (first drive Pratt threw one over his head out of bounds) and he might have been targeted one other time but I don't know how much more he was even in the game.
Was also surprised to not see Booker much; 2 catches for 9 yards. I really think we were keeping it close to the vest before Ole Miss next week.
Celestine led us in rushing (77 yards), I didn't even notice he had that many carries but admittedly I wasn't locked in on every play by the second half. He looks like the kind of guy who will be good in the future but I suspect is fully planned for redshirting this year as he doesn't appear to have anything we lack in other guys (and I mean that as a compliment to our RBs not a slight to Celestine).
Good to see Keitha Jones Jr. get some touches. I suspect he's our James after James graduates. Hated that they targeted him several times down to the goal line and then he dropped the sure TD pass (though at least it was right into Phat Watts' hands!)
I was really surprised when I saw MSU's QB ended up with decent stats (higher QB rating than Pratt or Rattler last week)... 18/26 for 191 and 3 TD (& 2 INT). There was never a point where he did anything that impressed me.
On to next week, rested and healthy!

Ibieta has always been a better runner. He looked a little shaky with some of his passes. That INT for a touchback was just a bad throw.Baywave1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 5:05 pm Pratt looked very sharp. Interestingly ibieta runs better than Pratt. Well, he did play the entire game (except couple plays when he got his bell rung). He's a tough guy.PeteRasche wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 6:59 pm

His 2 yard punt didn’t help his punting rating.Marathon Wave wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:18 pmWell, he did play the entire game (except couple plays when he got his bell rung). He's a tough guy.PeteRasche wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 6:59 pm

Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
I was also shocked to see that their punter averaged almost 40 yards per kick after his second and third punts went for 20 and 0 yards, respectively. Of course he had plenty more tries to bring the average up.
Speaking of which, Ryan Wright... 1 punt, 68 yards. Nice.
Also - I mentioned this on attom - I was stunned at their kick returner repeatedly taking fair catches around the 5 yard line with no one within 10 to 15 yards of him. I'd love to know why. Someone suggested they maybe hadn't practiced returns enough... But heck, the dude caught the ball and had 10 yards of green in front of him, why not run it? No practice needed for that... My only guess is they are thin at whatever position the KR also played and couldn't afford to risk him getting hurt?
Announced attendance (in case anyone cared) was 2100. I saw on Twitter that UNO track/field/XC was in attendance cheering for us... Is UNO also in Birmingham?

Celestine ran really, really well... he's going to be good
Ibieta looked solid... he had a couple of bad throws, but overall was good
Jesus Machado looked really good as well
Cooper got a lot of playing time.. his normal rotation and then a few more series with the second unit.. he made some plays and a couple of mistakes

Re: Your happy final: Tulane 69 Morgan St 20
He was best athlete on field for MSU. In addition to the shank, he did have some nice kicks. He also held on place kicks. He probably drove the bus too from the team hotel.
He was better than our scout team and he is a gritty player. Nuf said.
Meanwhile Wright looks great. After seeing all the kickers today, Fritz has them properly seeded in all roles.
After today’s TD on the recovered fumble after the blocked FG, I’ve now seen two of the strangest scores on special teams including Toles’s “interception” against Army last season.
