Weren't baseball players allowed to transfer without sitting out 15 years ago? If so, what's different now other than players being more willing to move?

College baseball is different now. “Power” conferences now care more and if it affects them, it’s a bigger deal.

The new transfer rule should help TU.

Years ago when Jones was around, that's was one way he was able to get some very good impact players to transfer. That's is what TU needs, impact players.

I fear power 5 will poach other conferences turning them into a farm system. Football is a real concern.

The players they lose for the most part will be because they couldn't cut it as they were overrated. The players they pick up will be players who were underrated and have proven they can play at the P5 level.

Seriously though. I lot of very good players are not given chances at big schools because they are only a 4 star when the team just signed a shiny new 5 star or they are a good 3 start who was never given a real shot. Coaches and position coaches have favorites and play people they subjectively like over players who may be better.

Wait, is Burrow overrated because he couldn't cut it at OSU or underrated because LSU picked him up?

There's always exception to the rule but this won't be good overall for Tulane and other G5's. As to McMillan he doesn't belong in that category with Burrow. Not even close.

Hey were bith transfers that "couldnt cut it" and the schools they went to had to deal with getting a player who couldnt cut it. Were tthey not both good for the schools that took them,? They are in the same category if not the caliber player.

You have to prove the rule before its a rule.

How much do you attribute that to LS? Pratt didnt transfer and hew as acclaimed by many sites as a top freshman as well. Do we give CWF enough credit for that.

Who your coach is and their ability has a lot to do with it.

This rule is really good for players and that's why I am for it. If coaches can leave willy nilly, 18 yos deserve a chance to make a mistake and then rectify it.

It does complicate Tulane's position, but we are already lower in the pecking order than a bunch of schools. This really doesn't change that. We still have to do a great job recruiting, developing, and retaining talent, same as before.

Burrow is not a valid example, he went from one P5 national title contender to another. My concern is p5 teams cherry picking non p5 players to fill areas of need. Will schools have the ability to offer players on other teams? If not it will be done via back channels, but done none the less. Upward mobility for non p5 teams to ascend to p5 type of talent level just got more difficult.

The portal goes in both directions. Sharper coaches and programs will benefit. Duller coaches and programs won't. Same as regular recruiting.

McMillan was not a good D-1n QB. He could perform ok when playing a team with a bad D. When facing a defense with a pulse he wasn't up to it. Low bar syndrome there. The rule is there for all to see. How many times have we had people posting with an excitement when we get a someone from FSU, Oklahoma and the such and then nothing. As time goes on this will prove detrimental to our program.

Still digging deeper on your take that Banks was better than McMillan ?
