First there was Harvey...
...now there is Irma. Hope that biach leaves the Gulf coast or Florida or the Atlantic coast alone and meanders out into the northern Atlantic before she dies off.

Don't waste your time until she at least reaches the lesser Antilles.

spaghetti lines look worrisome even this early on... original lines yesterday had all but one sending it up the gulf stream... now all but one sending it to or south of Cuba... not a good trackWaveProf wrote:Don't waste your time until she at least reaches the lesser Antilles.

The Weather Channel is still buzzed from their week+ viewership binge and will overhype anything to keep it going.

Re: First there was Harvey...
good news for the Gulf.. only 1 computer model has it going to the west of FL and the eastern part of the Gulf
bad news for the outer banks and Virginia.. multiple models have Irma heading that way... a few have it curving back out to the east....
right now, most models have Bermuda getting destroyed and a lot of them even show only a glancing blow to the eastern Caribbean

lots of spaghetti lines have Georgia, SC and NC in the cross hairs... as a cat 3 or 4, it would still be hurricane strength if it hit my house... my well runs on electricity so I may be one of those "filling up the tub" people!!wave-em in wrote:Could affect the Navy game.

Re: First there was Harvey...
I'm supposed to spend the week of the `0th thru the 16th in North Carolina for my Mother-in-Law's 90th birthday.
But it looks like a good chance Irma could be near my house about the time I'm due to leave, so I'll need to empty my refrigerators (power goes off at the drop of a hat around here, and my Gen set hasn't gotten installed yet) and put the windbars in my garage. This area doesn't really get much in the way of hurricane activity (because of the shape of the Florida east coastline and the gulf-stream), but Matthew made us believe last year.
Then, there's a good chance we'll get at least some remnant activity in Winston-Salem a few days later.
Betsy got me twice in '67...this could be my second double.

Re: First there was Harvey...
Irma currently moving west as track is forecast as WSW, so maybe follow the northern track of the bubble?
On edit: As I post, latest update shows Irma now moving WSW. Current track has it going right through the Bahamas

That's a bad path prediction there (as of 9/4 am, in case it's a live link). That's hitting all the Caribbean islands AND heading into the gulf.

Re: First there was Harvey...
Yep, it was. (typo) I was on a midshipman cruise aboard a Navy destroyer somewhere out in the Atlantic where we rode through a rough night as Betsy came through the area. Then we put into Norfolk and I flew home to New Orleans, just in time for her to find me again.sr wrote:Check that Betsy date. (One of my friends who was also on the cruise went from Norfolk to Miami to visit his uncle, then he went home to New Orleans. He was "blessed" three times by the same storm.)

but the experts are insisting it's going to head north because of a high pressure system in the middle of the Atlantic and some other ridge... still think it's going right up the center of Florida... Miami, FLL, Boca, West Palm all on the east side of the storm as it splits America's wang up the middlePeteRasche wrote:That's a bad path prediction there (as of 9/4 am, in case it's a live link). It was... not sure how Roller got it twice unless he was on a boat... or was in FL then went to NO

Re: First there was Harvey...
I googled "Irma spaghetti models" earlier today and got some page (I don't remember the site) that had like 30 model paths, all of which created a huge glob of possibilities.... but almost all of them would go straight up along Florida. Either up the east coast, up the west coast, or, to use your metaphor, full catheterization.Johnny Mac wrote:but the experts are insisting it's going to head north because of a high pressure system in the middle of the Atlantic and some other ridge... still think it's going right up the center of Florida... The good news (being selfish) is only like one out of thirty headed anywhere remotely close to LA... though that one pretty much went dead through New Orleans.
Re: First there was Harvey...
Irma needs to start moving a bit North.
EDIT: ... and if you look at showers in the Bay of Campeche, last night at noon the weather jocks give it a 5070% chance of developing.
