Loved him in spaceballs (not to mention a bunch of other movies).

When I teach my "The Body in Film" class, the movie the students always think they aren't going to like but end up liking a lot is almost always The Elephant Man. And that's mostly because of John Hurt.

I found him most distinguished in his last decade.

He'll always be Caligula in "I, Claudius" to me. He was so good in that part you almost pitied the character.

Caligula. I heard there was a strip club in Houston with the same name. 8)

The first Alien movie, before 24/7 media could easily spoil any movie surprises. When that thing blasted out of his chest, I think I needed to change my shorts.

I agree; I saw it with a couple of friends, and we were all so upset that we each needed to buy a round of drafts at three different bars...
