SMU trying to extend Dykes contract

Post by waverider »

They are trying to “pony up” a lot of incentives. Apparently hasn’t signed yet.
As we’ve reported on @SMU247 this week, #SMU has had a contract extension offer in front of Sonny Dykes, almost doubling his $2M salary with a large pool for assistants and a new Football Operations Building on the way.

I think we would all welcome a football ops announcement and increased salary pool for assistants

To be clear I wish we were doing that too. The hashtags were just me being glib.

I agree. I just posted on the main board that we would be 8th in the new CUSAAC based on current SP+. Laugh all we want, but schools above and below us are doing things to advance while we stay stuck in neutral.

Dykes might already be preparing his next team. SMU trails 21-10 at Memphis with 2:30 left in the 3rd

I've honestly not paid too much attention to SMU over the past few years but it seems like many years they start out undefeated or "(large number) and 1" with the one loss being a power P5 program very early... They get ranked... Then they lose an AAC game unexpectedly and after that they just collapse into mediocrity. Almost like they completely deflate after their first conference loss. I could be imagining that but it feels like that's happened more than once with them.

That makes 2 of us. Maybe we are imagining it but they always drop in the rankings late.

That definitely seems like a pattern with them

Losing to Cincinnati near halftime 27-0 so seems likely they will fall to 8-3 after starting 7-0.

If we played them next week, I’d really like our chances.

Some chatter about Dykes and TCU this week. He could use a ninth win.

I already came across an article speculating on his successor at SMU as he's "expected" to go to TCU.

8-4 looking like a real possibility. 34-24 Tulsa late 4th
