2022 AAC Football Media Day

Post by waverider »

From the AAC site:

The American Athletic Conference has announced the date, format and coverage plans for its 2022 Football Media Day, which will be held virtually Thursday, July 28, and available to fans exclusively on ESPN+.

ESPN college football announcers Kris Budden and Rene Ingoglia will join The American’s Morgan Uber from the conference’s state-of-the-art studio in Irving, Texas, for coverage that begins at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT with the results of the conference’s preseason media poll.

Coverage will consist of a day-long program as head coaches and student-athletes from The American’s 11 teams take part in scheduled 30-minute media sessions. Commissioner Mike Aresco will deliver opening remarks to begin the session and will be available for questions from the media as well. Registered media may participate and ask questions via Zoom, while fans may watch through the ESPN+ platform.

The program will also include additional segments, including interviews with College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill cork sucker, Bowl Season Executive Director Nick Carparelli, Tulane Director of Athletics Troy Dannen, and Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Executive Director Brant Ringler among others.

The American is coming off an historic season in 2021 as Cincinnati was selected for the College Football Playoff and finished the season ranked No. 4 nationally. It marked the first College Football Playoff appearance by an American Athletic Conference team and the sixth time in eight seasons of the CFP era that The American was represented in the New Year’s Six. Seven American Athletic Conference teams were selected for bowl games, while conference teams were a combined 3-1 in postseason games that were played.

The American also had three NCAA Consensus All-America selections (South Florida running back/return specialist Brian Battie, Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad Gardner, Houston cornerback/return specialist Marcus Jones), trailing only the SEC and Big Ten among FBS conferences. The American had the winners of the Paul Hornung Award (Jones), the Jim Thorpe Award (Cincinnati cornerback Coby Bryant) and the consensus National Coach of the Year (Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell), and matched its best showing in the NFL Draft with 19 players selected in 2022.
