We didn't learn enough about these guys from the first two times playing them to score more than 16 points in the first half? 16 points??

Sluggish 1st half with only 16 points scored. Better effort in 2nd half, but just not enough to win.

the season is over.

It's time for a change. The status quo will mean at best a lackluster "postseasonless" year next year. At best. It isn't going to get done under Dave Dickerson.

Merciful end to the season. They played defense well enough to stay in games, but the offensive end stunk and gave them no chance.

TOugh shooting day for Sims and Timmons. I am ready for a change but don't believe one is coming. Have to stay hopeful with what we have I guess.

Same ole story of inconsistent play game to game. I'd have thought that we'd learn by now with no size you have to aggressively box out their big guys to rebound but I didn't notice too much of that today.

That said, we've never handled teams that play aggressive in-your-face defense well, such as losing 4 of 5 to UNO. You have to know how to win ugly, usually it involved big men, which of course we don't have.

I had such high hopes for this season, It's not at all what I thought we could accomplish even with the talent on board. Losing to UNO once again at home set the stage for this IMO....

GAME NOTES
- Kevin Sims finished his career at Tulane (school ranking) with 1,339 points (15th), 412 assists (3rd), 164 3-pointers made (3rd), 429 3-pointers attempted (3rd), 401 FT made (3rd) and 3,737 minutes played (6th).
- Asim McQueen played in his 122nd and final game at Tulane, ranking his tied for fourth on the career list.

With a core of those two and only the 142nd hardest schedule in the country, we should have achieved more than 8 wins.

I've been watching a lot of "Traditional One Bid" Conference Tournaments games this week and these teams are playing at a much higher level (talent and coached) and although they may not have the same obstacles to overcome as we do (practice facility, academic excuses, etc.) - Tulane University would have been a very easy sell to these players. The wonderful thing about College Basketball Recruiting is that you only have to get a signature from the right 3 or 4 players a year.

In my opinion - We need to go the direction of a smaller program Head Coach that has had success, as a Head Coach, and that will be a salesman for what we have and not a mouth piece harping on what we don't. Eight wins is NOT acceptable at Tulane University.

We are about to find out if Tulane is serious about athletics.

Curious of how many times anyone has read a DD comment being a "mouth piece" about what he doesnt have at Tulane?

He hasnt blamed fans or the administration.
People can point out the recruiting and the record this year but DD hasnt made a public spectacle of excuses whether the situation was his own inflictions or a let down by the Institution (Tulane Support) around him. We all know it is a bit of everything that has hindered or failed certain programs we have.

Yep - we will soon see if they are prepared to give a level field/tools needed to the hired staff to at least compete with peers, whether those staff are in place or new - without Institutional help/change - we will be having the same sob story for another 2-4 years, rinse, repeat....

True
including coaching. And like the other stuff, it should be addressed and fixed IF we're serious.

Agreed big$. i think you could have the greatest basketball coach in the country and he would struggle at tulane to bring in top talent. sometimes just having 'a great education' isn't always the biggest selling point, to players.

I think Dave Dickerson is a great guy from the few (brief) times I met him and also based on quotes I've read and what others say about him. Unfortunately, coaching is a harsh profession and it's pretty easy to judge whether someone is getting the job done or not. Coach Dickerson's problem is that he has not brought in enough talent to win, and that's the bottom line. In fact, I would argue that Shawn Finney (Quincy Davis, David Gomez, Byron Parker) recruited better talent than Coach DD has, and certainly it is indisputable that Perry Clark did. So the argument that it's impossible to recruit at Tulane is a little bit thin on evidence, in my opinion.

The bottom line is that we haven't even been close to any kind of post season in the five years Coach DD has been here. I think he's been given enough time to show what he can do.

How many people ahead of him on that list played in the 90s? An interesting comparison of the talent levels between then and now. Granted, Sims didn't have the surrounding cast and thus probably had more defenses focusing on him.

Actually, you only need three or four players every couple of years, to completely turn a program around. Sometimes even just one in one year.

The list of former Tulane assistants who are now successful head coaches - many at "smaller" programs - has been posted here several times before. There are probably 4 or 5 of them who would see Tulane as a step up (and probably even a pay raise, even with what we pay now), that I bet would jump at the chance, if the chance is offered.
