Commitment #9 is OL Jason Swann

Jason Swann - Consensus 3* OL out of Aquinas in FL.

Offers included Miss State, Syracuse, Cincy, East Carolina, Toledo, and more. 247 had him getting "warmer" with Miss State. Was on campus today before they closed.

That's a good one if we hold onto him.

Boy that's quite a get. What's not to like. Love the "Stars", love the other offers/interest, love his size (6'-3", 270 lbs.). We'll have a fight on our hands to keep him.

I always defer to you folks on recruiting.

Is it a maxim that freshman OL are always a couple of seasons away from seeing the field? At least the 3* and below recruits we get?

Gotta love it. Controlling the line of scrimmage makes your skill players "better." Let's get four more like Jason.

Same HS as Joey Bosa and Michael Irvin.

Not always but usually so they can get stronger, improve technique, and learn the scheme.

Terrific get by Coach Fritz. He's got some momentum going. Is this the kid who had a teammate visit us this past week (I think he was a LB)?

For those that don't know, St. Thomas Aquinas is the best HS football program in Florida. They get accused of cheating by recruiting every year. I don't care if a player has negative stars, if he's at Aquinas I want him. They've won the state title in 92, 97, 99, 07, 08, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16. Last year they won the title by beating Tampa Plant 45-6. They always play a couple of games against national powers like Vegas' Bishop Gorman or Don Bosco Prep in Jersey.

Some alum include Geno Atkins, Gio Bernard, Joey Bosa, Phillip Dorsett, Rashad Greene, Michael Irvin, Lamarcus Joyner, Brandon Linder, James White.

They're even getting a lot of flak for how good they are, and how they're stockpiling talent

Excited that we have an early signing day to put an end to the apprehension of whether they'll really sign.

Keep 'em coming, Coach. Keep 'em coming. I noticed Tulane had a 2019 OL recruit in this week plus a couple of others.

I look forward to less apprehension around here!!

As others have mentioned, the really big benefit is that it will force all parties to open their kimonos earlier and wider. ( Visualize that with a certain HC up river.) It will be a transparently smaller pool of supply and demand after the early period ends. It's one thing to say we have 25 slots so we know one will likely open for a marginal prospect. It's another to have 5 slots open and try to persuade a recruit something good MIGHT happen if he stays available.

Not all elite basketball players sign early and some still wait rather late. Football will follow the same pattern. However I think under the new rules, at least one or several of say targets like Duke Riley, Lindsey Scott and the Jesuit tight end (I forget his name) would have signed with Tulane. Fritz definitely has more leverage under these rules and more importantly the skills to exploit them to Tulane football's benefit.

Considering he's in the picture on the front page of the STA football website, I'd guess, yes.

Swann's opening game will be on ESPN U Friday night against California power St. John Bosco at 7pm (EST). They won their "kickoff classic" against Ft. Lauderdale Dillard 39-0.

Swann looked pretty good tonight, didn't really flatten anyone but didn't get beat either. Started at LG and later moved to LT, might've been because of injury but also STA's tackles were getting whipped all night.

STA won in overtime 9-3.

I fell asleep. Not going to lie, but there were like 20+ prospects and commits in that game, and he looked good. I'm excited about him.
